The 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting was officially held in Cambodia
International Business News – On August 3, the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM-55) was officially held in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Foreign ministers and ASEAN Secretary-General attended the meeting.
In his opening remarks at the meeting, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen took stock of ASEAN’s unexpected achievements, making Southeast Asia a region of cooperation, development and mutual trust over 55 years of ASEAN’s development. Hun Sen said that in the context of complex and volatile regional and international situations, ASEAN should strengthen solidarity more than ever, play a central role, and strive to build a “unity in diversity”, a united, inclusive and cooperative ASEAN community.
In the spirit of “ASEAN Action – Meeting Challenges Together”, ASEAN has demonstrated that we can tide over the difficulties together, implement the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and strive to formulate binding, efficient and The Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) of international law, including the International Law Convention. In addition, Hun Sen also suggested that ASEAN strengthen cooperation to jointly tackle climate change and environmental decline, and consider formulating a “Green Deal” to fully tap the benefits brought by RCEP.
After the opening ceremony, ASEAN foreign ministers will attend relevant meetings under the AMM-55 framework.
