Nanjing Brian Hospital (NBH), also known as the Brain Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing Medical University, unveiled the Center for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) on the morning of April 28.
The center will start offering service to people suffering from recurring intrusive thoughts that cause anxiety and compulsive behaviors on May 7, the first in the city to specialize in the health issue. It aims to make the diagnosis and treatment standardized, tailored, targeted and comprehensive.
Liu Na, a psychiatrist at the hospital, said about 2.4 percent of the OCD patients in China suffer from the anxiety for a whole life and some patients develop the symptom at a young age. Compared with other mental problems, OCD is more difficult to identify and treat effectively.
The center’s specialists will make evaluation based on one-to-one interview with a patient, fully understanding the health condition and requirement, and then work out a tailored treatment plan.
