The first 5G-powered unmanned smart warehouse in Jiangsu Province, a manufacturing and foreign trade hub in China, held the media open day on August 11.
Located in the Yuhuatai logistics base of Suning.com, a leading e-commerce platform in China, the warehouse completed construction in last August and has extensively integrated new equipment and technologies, such as the unmanned forklifts, Automatic Guided Vehicles (AGVs), robotic arms, and automatic packaging machine. Full automation is realized across the whole operation, from receiving to picking, packing, labelling and sorting. The facility is five times efficient than manual operation. For example, it takes just 20 minutes to process an order from receiving to outbound shipping.
Ling Yunfei, director of Suning Logistics Research Institute, said the automatic warehouse is the first to deeply combine 5G with the logistics sector in China and will certainly spearhead the application of the Internet of Things to drive logistics transformation.
Suning Logistics and the Jiangsu branch of China Mobile will strengthen cooperation to apply 5G, cloud computing, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and machine learning to research and develop logistics solutions that are intelligent, automatic and flexible.
The two sides also plan to launch a 5G logistics lab to boost technological innovation and industrial application, gradually develop it into a top training center for 5G-releated talents in the country, and provide technical support for the large-scale, commercial application of 5G.
